Ben was named for a Constantinobian saint who was best known for his antics. His parents raised him in the Church of the Flying Spaghetti Monster well before it became a true religious institution. The differentiation between the two churches caused irreversible damage to his left kidney. 

There is often speculation that Ben has powers that rival that of most super heroes. His powers are believed to have occurred when the 2nd season of Big Brother aired on TV. Because of the unlikihood of this event, a parallel time shifted dimension of super powers opened and sucked Ben through for a nanosecond, ultimately leaving him with unspeakable....well....they're unspeakable.
